Did you know?
At Kid’s Concept we are proud of our supply chain partners, who in turn are proud of their craftsmanship and high-quality work. We have common values and often many years of collaboration behind us.
Our sustainability work includes improving social conditions and minimizing environmental impact in our supply chain. We want to ensure respect for human rights, good working conditions and environmental protection. Kid’s Concept has many years of experience with suppliers all over the world and we know that it takes systematic and hard work to maintain a high standard. We try to live up to our commitments by:
- Having a few suppliers with long-term relationships
- Being very present in the factories
- Require detailed information on social and environmental conditions
- Performing systematic Due Diligence checks throughout our supply chain
- Working with our suppliers to achieve improvements
Our suppliers
Our suppliers are located in China, India, Sweden and Eastern Europe. We have worked with most of our suppliers for a long time – some since the start in 2007. We have always prioritized getting to know our suppliers on a personal level. We are able to do this thanks to our local quality management team in Hong Kong. They visit the factories and work with them to ensure that our high quality standards and our focus on good social and environmental conditions are maintained.
We use a supplier guide that defines all the requirements a factory must meet in order to supply to Kid's Concept. It defines our principles regarding human rights and working conditions as well as requirements for chemical management and environmental management. 97 percent of our suppliers have signed our supplier guide.
Due Diligence guidelines
This spring, we developed guidelines for Due Diligence checks in our supply chain in accordance with the OECD’s Responsible Business Conduct Guidelines. We conducted a detailed social and environmental risk analysis based on the country of manufacture, manufactured product (for example, a cotton toy or wooden furniture) and production steps for our entire supply chain. We then mapped our existing controls and supplier assessments in relation to the identified risks. This resulted in a list of prioritized improvement actions that we will focus on in the coming years.
According to our Due Diligence Guidelines, all suppliers classified as risk suppliers must have a valid social audit conducted by an external auditor who assesses whether the supplier complies with our principles on human rights and working conditions. In 2021, 93 percent of our suppliers had a valid and approved audit from Amfori BSCI. Amfori is a leading global business organization for open and sustainable trade. Amfori BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) offers independent audits that verify compliance with all principles in our Supplier Guide.
With regard to environmental protection, all our wood meets the requirements of the EU Timber Regulation, which prevents the trade in illegally harvested timber. A large part of our wood is FSC certified, which means that it comes from sustainably managed forests with good social conditions.
BSCI also verifies that our suppliers meet all statutory environmental protection requirements. However, through our Due Diligence work, we have come to the conclusion that we want to go even further. In the coming years, we will expand our cooperation with our suppliers to reduce their environmental impact, focusing on fossil fuels, carbon dioxide emissions and water consumption.
